Slavery - II

One is enslaved, not merely by overt elements - like work, family, friends, money... but is shackled by things more covert. Fear fetters so fiercely that to free oneself is not facile. Love binds, as does desire and a host of other intangibles. But they bind becuase they have the power to create fear. The worst fear of them all - the fear of loss. To lose is to die. Is renunciation, then, the key? I fear not! Renunciation is not perfect like death. One lives like a dew drop on a lotus leaf, that tantalizing Hindu ideal. Attached and detached.

Dew on a lotus leaf,
Pearls just created.
Stay, they do, forever. For,
Reappear, they will 'morrow.
Dew on a lotus leaf,
Pearls just created.

Are they the tears of the Earth?
Or are they the diamonds of the sphere?
Temporal.
Lasting.
Mystical.
Familiar.
Dew on a lotus leaf,
Pearls just created.
