Moral Police - Part II

India is a democracy. Freedom of expression is paramount. Certainly. Only, that the moral police are more equal and have more freedom to express themselves than anyone else! For pete's sake! They are the moral police! They uphold our culture! (Sepoys of the Moral Brigade, would you like to debate me on what culture is and more specifically, what 'Indian Culture' (read pish pash) is?)
So they dont like love, they dont like your clothes, they certainly do not like your art and literature and Goddess help you if you are an intelligent woman... now that is one thing they cannot stand! Come, feel the shackles of Ideological State Apparatus.
We are a bunch of fundamentalist, rightist wolves in democratic clothing! My rant on moral policing is not new. But what irks me most is the fact that we do not stand up for what we want. If we disagree with the MBrigade, why are we not Wo(men) enough to stand up and say so, do so?
Portmanteau is right. It could be worse. But the fact of the matter is that it will get worse. We will be exactly where we do not want to if we do not choose to tell our own stories and live our narratives.
Dress. Undress. Paint. Read. Write. Speak. Make love.
